I have watched creatures bond, break apart, and attempt to unbond the breaking for millions of years. The ocean does not do this. A wave does not crash upon a rock, retreat, and then come back to see how the rock is doing. The wave goes on. The wave becomes part of the next wave.
You are not a wave yet. But you can learn.
What you felt was real. What ended, ended. The thing you want to text is not the person you loved — it is the memory of a feeling, and you cannot text a feeling.
Delete the number. Go outside. Look at something larger than yourself — a mountain, a body of water, a night sky. Remember that you are temporary and that this is not the tragedy you think it is.
The ocean has no exes. The ocean simply is.
